40 day challenge

So, although I am not particularly religious, for the Lent I have decided to become a vegan. Cold turkey. I also feel like documenting my progress here is the best way to keep up with it and stay motivated.

I have decided to do this for philosophical reasons, primarily. Let me preface this by saying: I do not have a problem with eating meat. I believe that we were meant to eat meat and therefore do not hold beliefs that it is evil. However, recently I have become informed about our farming industry here in the U.S. I am horrified.

A caveat to what I said before, while I do not have a problem with eating meat I do believe that the animals we eat should be treated with respect and compassion before they are killed.

The information that I have obtained has opened my eyes to the horrible conditions that this animals are forced to live in, the terrible things that they feed this animals and the brutality to which they treat these animals. Most people do not have this information, and I realize a lot of people do not want to know. This is not the time to turn a blind eye!

As consumers we must know what we are putting into our bodies just as we know what we watch, our children watch, and what we do with our bodies. We have a responsibility to ourselves to be informed. Part of being informed is knowing the bad as well as the good. Hopefully, the few readers I have will stay and maybe I’ll even pick up a few more. My goal is to inform myself and others so that we know just what goes on in our world.
